New Delhi: A 6-year-old girl of Indian origin has been racially attacked in Waterford city of Ireland. On Monday evening (August 4), while playing outside the house, some boys surrounded her and beat her badly saying “Go back to India”. It is alleged that they hit her with a bicycle on her private part and also punched her several times on the face.
At the time of the incident, the girl’s mother had gone inside the house to feed her 10-month-old son. She told that she was keeping an eye outside, but when the younger son started crying, she went inside for a minute. Then the girl returned home crying and was unable to speak anything.
Later, one of her friends told that five boys of about 12 to 14 years punched her on the face and one boy hit the bicycle wheel on her private part. An 8-year-old girl was also a part of this gang. The girl’s mother told The Irish Mirror that the attackers also abused her and made racial remarks calling her ‘dirty Indian’.
The girl’s nurse mother has been living in Ireland for eight years
The girl’s mother, who is a nurse by profession and has been living in Ireland for the last eight years, has recently become an Irish citizen. She said, “We no longer feel safe here. My daughter is now afraid to play outside the house. I am very sad that I could not keep her safe.” The family shifted to Kilbarry area of Waterford in January this year. The mother also told that she later saw the boys who were staring at them and laughing. They are still roaming around.
Three attacks have taken place on Indians in Ireland so far
The girl’s mother has complained about the incident to the Garda (Irish Police) but did not demand any punishment. She says, “I want them to be counselled and given the right direction. We are professionals here, we have worked hard to work in Ireland.” This incident has raised concerns about the safety of the Indian community in Ireland.
Last month, a 40-year-old Indian man was also beaten and stripped naked in public by a gang of teenagers in a Dublin suburb. There have been three attacks on Indians in Dublin since July 19.
