
New Delhi: The Central Government has taken a big decision in favor of Divyangjan. Taking a historic and sensitive decision, the Central Government has implemented 4% reservation in Central Government Housing Schemes. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has said that ‘Now 4% reservation will be given to Divyangjan in the housing allocation of the Center. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to the empowerment of every citizen and also strengthens the foundation of inclusive and accessible India.’
This decision taken under the leadership of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will not only give respect and convenience to the Divyangjan but is also considered a big step towards building an inclusive and accessible India. The purpose of this decision of the government is that Divyangjan also get equal participation in urban development and housing schemes. The ministry has directed all the states and union territories to implement this decision with immediate effect. This reservation will be applicable in government flats, housing schemes and other residential schemes.
The Directorate of Estates has issued an office memorandum regarding this decision, in which it has been clarified that now Divyangjan will get 4% reservation in the allotment of central government residential houses. This decision has been taken under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act). This Act ensures equal rights and dignity of life to the Divyangjan.
Let us tell you that with the goal of providing homes to all, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on June 25, 2015. The objective of this scheme is to provide ‘Housing for All’. This scheme provides central assistance by the Central and State Governments for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG) and slum dwellers.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has described this decision as an important initiative towards inclusive governance. He said that this policy change takes India towards making a country where every citizen gets equal opportunities irrespective of his physical condition. He said that ‘Divyangjans not only need sympathy but it is the responsibility of the government to make their lives easier with equal participation and respect.’ This decision will not only help in providing accessible and safe housing to Divyaangjans but will also increase their social and economic participation by bringing them into the mainstream. This step further strengthens the foundation of an inclusive and accessible India.
