  • Will the BJP be able to defeat ‘Didi’ in Bengal?
The political contest in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala is becoming clearer for the 2026 Assembly elections. The main contest in West Bengal is considered to be between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is seeking a fourth consecutive term. The BJP is exerting all its strength to consolidate its hold in the state. The Congress and Left parties are also preparing to contest the elections, but the direct contest is expected to be between the TMC and the BJP.

Contest between the BJP and the Congress in Assam
The contest in Assam is primarily between the BJP and the Congress. The BJP, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is aiming to regain its majority, while the Congress is trying to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment. Other regional parties are also active in the state, but the focus of the election remains a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress.

Will the BJP be able to prepare political ground in Tamil Nadu?
The political battle in Tamil Nadu is between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. In the Indian bloc, the DMK government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin is attempting to return to power. Meanwhile, the AIADMK and its allies, including the BJP, are threatening to pose a strong challenge. The BJP is also working to strengthen its presence through coalition politics.

Who is the contest between in Kerala?
Kerala has traditionally seen a direct contest between two fronts, and the situation is the same this time too. The CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF are facing off in the electoral arena. The Left Front, in power for the second consecutive term, is seeking a third term. The UDF is adopting an aggressive strategy to return to power.

States and Number of Assembly Seats

FIR against five officials in Bengal on Election Commission’s directive
Meanwhile, just hours before the Election Commission’s deadline, the West Bengal government filed an FIR against five officials for serious irregularities related to voter list revision. The Commission had directed the filing of criminal cases against these officials six months ago. It is alleged that more than 100 fake names were added to the voter list in the Baruipur East and Moyna assembly constituencies of South 24 Parganas.

The officials against whom action was taken include Electoral Registration Officer Debottam Dutta Chowdhury of Baruipur East, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Tathagata Mandal, Biplab Sarkar and Sudipta Das of Moyna, and data entry operator Surojit Halder. They are accused of sharing login details and illegally adding names.
