Major Tragedy in Chhattisgarh: Boiler Explodes at Power Plant; 9 Workers Dead, 30 Injured

Sakti: A major tragedy struck around 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the Vedanta Power Plant located in Singhitarai, within Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district. Chaos ensued at the facility following the sudden explosion of a boiler. In this tragic incident, approximately 30 workers sustained severe injuries; of these, 9 workers succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the condition of several other injured individuals remains critical. Treatment for the injured is currently underway at the hospital.

Sakti District Superintendent of Police (SP), Praful Thakur, confirmed the deaths of the 9 workers. Following the incident, an atmosphere of panic and chaos prevailed within the plant premises. Relief and rescue operations are proceeding rapidly. Local administrative officials and police personnel have arrived at the scene and are actively engaged in bringing the situation under control. As of now, the exact cause of the accident remains undetermined.

Sound of Boiler Explosion Heard Far and Wide
In fact, the accident was so severe that the sound of the explosion could be heard from a considerable distance. Following the boiler blast, the plant premises were filled with screams and cries, creating a chaotic, stampede-like situation. Sources reported that numerous workers were on duty at the site at the time of the incident. The injured were rushed via ambulances to nearby hospitals, where the condition of 20 workers remains critical. Meanwhile, 9 workers have passed away while undergoing medical treatment.

Senior Officials Depart for the Accident Site
Upon receiving news of the incident, senior officials from the Sakti district administration and police department immediately departed for Singhitarai. According to sources, relief and rescue operations are continuing inside the plant facility. It is suspected that several more individuals may still be trapped beneath the debris.
