80,000-Spectator Capacity… Country’s Second-Largest Cricket Stadium to be Built Across 75 Acres—Get the Details Here

Bengaluru: In India, cricket is not merely a sport; it is an emotion for the people. From children to the elderly, people of all ages adore this game, displaying a unique passion for it. The world’s largest cricket stadium—known as the Narendra Modi Stadium—is also located in India, situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Now, Karnataka is set to receive India’s second-largest cricket stadium. On Saturday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for this project at Suryanagar Phase-4 in Anekal Taluk.

Constructed in accordance with international standards, this stadium will have a seating capacity of approximately 80,000 spectators. The stadium will form part of a larger sports complex being developed by the Housing Department and the Karnataka Housing Board. The project was announced during an event held at Suryanagar, near Bengaluru.

4,000 Acres of Land Allocated for the Project
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that approximately 4,000 acres of land will be utilized for the entire development project. Of this, 75 acres will be dedicated to the stadium, while the remaining land will be developed into housing layouts and plots for farmers and other applicants.

Referring to the recent stampede that occurred during the celebrations of an RCB victory at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Siddaramaiah remarked that the state requires a larger venue equipped with superior infrastructure to promote sports and safely accommodate large crowds.

However, the project has faced opposition from certain farmers and environmentalists, who argue that the proposed location of the stadium lies in close proximity to the Karadikkal-Mahadeshwara Wildlife Corridor.
