A population policy needs to be implemented soon, only then will the imbalance be addressed; what is the RSS’s demand from the central government?

November 02, 2025

New Delhi. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has appealed to the central government to formulate a population policy soon to correct the demographic imbalance. Hosabale made this statement on the last day of the RSS’s All India Executive Committee meeting in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. He told reporters, “The government has mentioned this on the open platform and in Parliament. The sooner that population policy is implemented, the better it will be.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned demographic change in his Independence Day speech. He also announced a high-level mission to address it. Similarly, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned the issue in her interim budget speech ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in February 2024. She had announced a high-level committee to consider the challenges of rapid population growth and demographic change. Following Sitharaman’s announcement of the proposed mission, Dattatreya Hosabale has now issued a statement.

Hosabale explained why such a law is necessary.
Dattatreya Hosabale stated that infiltration, religious conversions, and the dominance of a single community are the three main factors that can destabilize democracy. He emphasized the need for a population control law. Hosabale said, “Conversion in the name of service is a matter of concern. Organizations like the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad are working to stop it. Conversions are also increasing among Sikhs in Punjab, which can be stopped through awareness and coordination to ensure ‘ghar wapsi’ (return of those who converted to other religions to Hinduism).”
