New Delhi. Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has said in its 15-page report on the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that the cause of the plane crash was the engine shutting down due to fuel cut. According to the report, immediately after takeoff, both the fuel switches were turned off one by one. Due to this, both the engines also stopped. The pilot tried to recover the engine, one engine started, but the other engine did not work and the plane kept falling. The report also mentions the cockpit recording, in which one pilot asked the other, did you turn off the fuel switch? The other replied, no. The plane crash will now be investigated from these three angles.
Investigation on these angles
1- Did the accident happen due to a technical glitch, which will reveal whether Boeing is responsible. Until a clean chit is given, Boeing is also not out of the radar of investigation.
2- Was the cutoff done manually or did the pilot do it intentionally. However, experts believe that it is not possible that the switch shifts from ‘RUN’ to ‘CUTOFF’ by mistake. The original equipment manufacturers are being called, they will also investigate.
3- Did the accident happen due to the fault of any third equipment?
When did the incident happen?
On June 12, flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London collided with a medical hostel building shortly after takeoff. 270 people died in this, including 241 passengers and crew members. Only one passenger survived this accident. A 15-page preliminary investigation report related to this accident has come out.
AAIB gave a 15-page report
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has given a 15-page report. According to the preliminary investigation, the accident happened due to both the engines of the plane shutting down. The fuel switches of both the engines were off in the accident plane, after which the pilots turned it on and tried to restart both the engines, but the plane was at a very low altitude, so the engines did not get time to regain power and the plane crashed. However, it has not been revealed how the fuel switches were turned off. All the points included in the report are pointing towards no technical fault in the plane and the pilot’s mistake.
The flight lasted 30 seconds from takeoff to the accident
According to the report, the entire flight from takeoff to the accident lasted only about 30 seconds. Till now, no warning or action has been recommended for any operator regarding the Boeing 787-8 aircraft and GE GEnx-1B engine in the report.
What did the Civil Aviation Minister say?
On the report, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that this is an initial investigation report, and facts have not been hidden in the investigation. All international standards have been followed in the investigation. This is an initial report. The final report is still awaited. As soon as the final report comes, we will reach a conclusion.
