New Delhi: Apple is entering a historic new chapter as longtime CEO Tim Cook steps down from the company’s top executive role after 15 years. Effective September 1, 2026, John Ternus, Apple’s former Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, will take over as the company’s new CEO.

Cook became Apple CEO in 2011, succeeding the company’s co-founder Steve Jobs. Under his leadership, Apple expanded its product and services ecosystem and launched major products including the Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod and Vision Pro.

Tim Cook to Remain Closely Involved with Apple
Cook is not leaving Apple. After stepping down as CEO, he will become the company’s Executive Chairman, where he will continue to contribute to selected areas of the business, including engagement with policymakers around the world. The transition follows a long-term succession planning process and was unanimously approved by Apple’s board of directors. Cook worked closely with Ternus during the transition period to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

Who Is John Ternus?
John Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and has spent more than two decades working across the company’s hardware operations. Before becoming CEO, he served as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, overseeing work across major product lines.
