Dubai. Team India, which defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, may not have received the trophy, but now the controversy has taken a new turn.
Actually, ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is accused of taking the winning trophy and medals to his hotel room. The BCCI has strongly objected to this, stating that the trophy should be sent to India, as the winning team is its rightful owner.
Thanks to Tilak Verma’s brilliant half-century and Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling, Team India won the Asia Cup title by defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final on Sunday. This was their second T20 title and ninth overall victory in the Asia Cup final.
India bowled first, bowling Pakistan out for 146 and then achieved the target of 147 with two balls to spare. Verma played a match-winning innings of 69 not out off 53 balls, while Shivam Dube made a quickfire 33 off 22 balls, sharing a crucial 60-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav performed brilliantly, taking four wickets for 30 runs in four overs. Varun Chakravarthy (2/30), Axar Patel (2/26), and Jasprit Bumrah (2/25) also took crucial wickets.
Politician, batting first, got off to a good start. The pair of Sahibzada Farhan (57 off 38 balls) and Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35 balls) added 84 runs in less than 10 overs, laying the foundation for a big score, but then added 62 runs to win the trophy.
India refused to accept the trophy after the match.
After winning the Asia Cup 2025, Team India refused to accept the trophy from ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Drama ensued throughout the night, with Naqvi waiting on stage.
BCCI explains its stance on why the Indian team did not accept the trophy from Naqvi.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has now issued a statement on why the Indian team did not accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi said, “India is at war with a country, and we had to hand over the trophy to a leader of that country… We cannot accept the trophy from a person representing a country that is waging war against our country. Therefore, we refused to accept the trophy.” It should be noted that Naqvi is the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He is also a minister in the Pakistani government.
Naqvi took the trophy to his hotel room
Saikia further said, “This does not mean that the person should take our trophy and medals, which should have gone to our team, to his hotel room. This is completely unacceptable, and we hope he will have the sense to send the trophy to India as soon as possible. This will at least restore some level of morality. We are going to register a strong protest against that person’s behavior at today’s (Asia Cup final) awards ceremony.”
