Bangladesh to Buy Cirit Laser Missile System from Turkey, Posing a Threat to India

December 31, 2025

Dhaka: Amidst growing tensions in India-Bangladesh relations, Dhaka is rapidly strengthening its military capabilities. Under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh has turned to Turkey and decided to purchase Cirit laser-guided missiles. These ‘smart’ missiles, which are already integrated into Bangladesh’s drones and upcoming attack helicopters, will enhance the country’s precision strike capabilities in modern warfare. Significantly, Bangladesh-Pakistan relations have strengthened under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, following Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. Pakistan already procures a large number of weapons from Turkey.

It is noteworthy that Bangladesh has already purchased Bayraktar TB-2 drones from Turkey, which are being used for surveillance along the Indian border. According to reports, despite the Ministry of Defence’s tender process, the Turkish Cirit missile system is highly likely to be selected. Manufactured by the Turkish company Roketsan, this missile is accurate and cost-effective and can be mounted on attack helicopters. It can destroy both stationary and moving targets, including armored and unarmored vehicles.

Now the question is, what impact could the Cirit missile have on India? This missile fills the gap between small rockets and guided anti-tank missiles. According to the manufacturer, it can be easily integrated into various platforms. Bangladeshi defense officials believe it is ideal for the country’s military needs. It has already been tested on drones and attack helicopters. With these missiles, the Bangladesh Air Force could target enemy positions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts near the Indian border.

Furthermore, Bangladesh is also in talks with Turkey to purchase six T-129 attack helicopters. In the future, the country wants to acquire powerful fourth-generation Eurofighter jets.
