May 14, 2025

Delhi. A major action has been taken against a Pakistani official working in the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The Government of India has declared him ‘Persona non grata’ (undesirable person). He was found involved in activities that were against his official position. An order has been issued to this official to leave India within 24 hours. In this regard, a diplomatic letter was issued to the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission on Tuesday. This action was taken by India against the Pakistani official at a time when tensions between the two countries are at their peak.

Persona non grata is a diplomatic term, which means considering a foreign diplomat undesirable in the host country. This decision is usually taken when a diplomat is involved in activities that are against the security, sovereignty or interests of the host country. Such as espionage, illegal activities or violation of diplomatic rules. This move by the Indian government shows that the said Pakistani official carried out activities that were against India’s interests. This is a formal diplomatic message, through which India informed Pakistan of its objection and action. Such a move highlights the tension between the two countries.

India responded with Operation Sindoor
On April 22, Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked tourists and civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people. It was considered the deadliest terrorist attack after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on the night of May 6-7, aimed at destroying terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK. The Indian Air Force carried out air strikes on 9 terrorist camps, killing about 100 terrorists. Pakistan admitted that 11 of its soldiers were killed and 78 injured in this operation. Pakistan carried out retaliatory attacks on Indian military posts on 8, 9 and 10 May, which escalated tensions between the two countries. Incidents of firing and ceasefire violations increased on the LoC. India has announced to continue the operation until the terrorists are eliminated.
