New Delhi. With the political heat of Bihar assembly elections increasing, PM Modi’s tours have started. After the Champaran belt, PM Modi’s eyes are on the Magadh region of Bihar. The Prime Minister will bless Bihar and West Bengal with the gift of development on Friday. PM Modi will first reach Gaya in Bihar, from where he will try to achieve Mission-Magadh by giving the gift of schemes worth more than Rs 13,000 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 18,200 crore in Bihar and West Bengal on Friday. It includes many projects related to electricity, connectivity, health, and public. Apart from this, he will flag off two Amrit Bharat trains, in which one train will run between Delhi and Gaya and the other train will run between Bihar and Jharkhand.
During his Bihar visit, PM Modi will visit Patna and Begusarai districts along with Gaya. PM Modi will also address a large public meeting at Magadh University in Gaya and try to fix Magadh, which is considered the weakest fort of BJP, and will be seen sharpening the party’s election campaign in Munger division. PM’s visit is taking place at a time when opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav are running Voter Rights Yatra in Bihar.
PM Modi’s ‘Mission Magadh’
The Magadh belt is considered to be the weakest fort of BJP in Bihar, on which it is trying its best to maintain its strong hold. In this area, BJP has joined hands with Jitan Ram Manjhi, Upendra Kushwaha and Chirag Paswan’s party to establish its political roots. In such a situation, PM Modi will give the gift of development from Bodh Gaya. One thing is clear that the political impact of PM Modi’s Gaya visit will be from Magadh to Munger division. There are a total of 48 assembly seats in these two divisions.
In the last election, BJP was completely wiped out in the Magadh belt. The Grand Alliance had captured most of the seats in Magadh and Munger. While the Grand Alliance is trying to maintain its political hold on the Magadh belt, the BJP is struggling to make inroads. In this episode, PM Modi’s public meeting has been organized in Gaya, where he will try to create a political atmosphere for the BJP in the Magadh region by giving the gift of development.
Understand the political equation of Magadh
The Magadh region of Bihar is considered very important politically, there are a total of 26 assembly seats here. In 2020, the Grand Alliance won 20 out of these 26 seats, while only 6 seats came in the account of NDA. In Gaya district, 5 out of 10 seats came in the account of the Grand Alliance. The Mahagathbandhan had an upper hand in Nawada, Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Arwal.
In 2015, when Nitish Kumar was with RJD, the results were against NDA. In the 2015 elections, out of 26 seats in Magadh, 21 seats were won by the Mahagathbandhan and only 5 seats were won by NDA. On the other hand, if we look at the results of the 2010 assembly elections, when JDU-BJP fought together, all the opposition parties including RJD were wiped out. JDU-BJP was successful in winning 24 out of 26 seats and only one seat went to RJD and one seat went to others.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the Mahagathbandhan had captured most of the seats in the Magadh division. Except Gaya, the seats of Aurangabad and Jehanabad were in the account of RJD. Due to this, this area remains challenging for NDA in the 2025 assembly elections. This is the reason why PM Modi is coming forward to balance the equation of Magadh belt before the announcement of elections.
Understand the political mathematics of Munger
There has been a close contest between the NDA and the Grand Alliance in the Munger division adjacent to Bihar’s capital Patna. The Munger belt is considered to be dominated by upper caste and Yadav voters. Begusarai, Munger, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai and Jamui area comes in Munger division. A total of 22 assembly seats come in this region. In the 2022 elections, out of these 22 seats, 13 were won by the NDA and 9 seats by the Grand Alliance.
At the same time, in 2015, BJP was completely wiped out when JDU and RJD came together. The Grand Alliance won 19 seats and only 3 seats came in the NDA’s account. In the 2010 elections, JDU and BJP fought together, so they were politically benefited. NDA won 18 seats and RJD could win only four seats. PM Modi will try to balance the equation of seats in Munger belt by inaugurating the six lane bridge in Begusarai.
