Ambernath: Can it be imagined that the two poles of Indian politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, would come together and form a government? Most people would say that this is merely a wild fantasy, completely unrelated to reality or any possibility. But what if we told you that it has actually happened?
Something similar has happened in the local body elections in Maharashtra, where the arch-rivals BJP and Congress have joined hands for power in a municipal council. This has happened in the Ambernath Municipal Council in Maharashtra. The BJP, which has been campaigning for a Congress-free India across the country, has directly joined hands with the Congress in Ambernath to secure power.
The reason behind this unexpected alliance between the BJP and Congress is said to be the intention to keep the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) led by Eknath Shinde out of power. The BJP has joined hands with the Congress, and now, on the strength of this alliance, it appears to be moving towards a clear majority in the Ambernath Municipal Council.
In the Ambernath Municipal Council, BJP’s Tejashree Karanjule has won the municipal council president election. In this municipal council, the ruling alliance has the support of 32 councilors, including 16 from the BJP, 12 from the Congress, and four from the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction). Without the 12 Congress councilors, the BJP president had the support of only 20 councilors, which was far short of the majority mark. Now, the BJP’s municipal council president has a clear majority, which was also necessary for the smooth functioning of the council.
Shinde’s party calls it an unholy alliance
Shiv Sena leaders are unhappy with the BJP’s alliance with the Congress in Ambernath. The party led by Eknath Shinde has called it an unholy alliance and launched a sharp attack on its ally BJP in the state government. Shiv Sena MLA Dr. Balaji Kinikar has called the BJP-Congress alliance a betrayal of the Shiv Sena. He said that the BJP, which talks about a Congress-free India, forming an alliance with the Congress for power in Ambernath is like stabbing the Shiv Sena in the back.
BJP retaliates against Shinde’s party
Meanwhile, the BJP has completely rejected the allegations made by the Shiv Sena faction. BJP vice-president Gulabrao Karanjule Patil said that if they had shared power in Ambernath with the Shinde faction, which has been involved in corruption for the last 25 years, that would have been the real unholy alliance. He also claimed that attempts were made several times to negotiate with the Shinde faction for the MahaYuti alliance in the Ambernath Municipal Council, but no positive response was received from their leaders.
Increased tension in MahaYuti over Ambernath
While the BJP-Congress alliance seems to be clarifying the power equation in the Ambernath Municipal Council, this alliance has increased tension within the MahaYuti. The debate over whether this alliance in Ambernath is unholy or a political necessity is intensifying. Attempts were made to contact Congress city president Pradeep Patil regarding this alliance, but he could not be reached.
