Canada: Indian Student Killed in Shooting, 20-Year-Old Shivank Shot Dead in Toronto

Toronto. An Indian student, Shivank Awasthi, was killed in a shooting in Toronto, Canada. The Indian Consulate in Toronto expressed grief on Thursday over the death of the 20-year-old Indian doctoral student, Shivank Awasthi, in a shooting near the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.

A statement issued by the consulate said, “We express our deepest condolences on the tragic death of young Indian doctoral student Shivank Awasthi in a fatal shooting incident near the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.” The Indian Consulate said in a statement, “In this difficult time, the Consulate is in touch with the bereaved family and is providing all necessary assistance in coordination with local authorities.”

Suspects Fled After Shooting
Police said Awasthi was shot on December 23 in the area of ​​Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road. Police who arrived at the scene found the Indian student lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. Shivank was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the suspects had fled before police arrived.

The campus was temporarily locked down while police searched the area. This murder marks the 41st homicide in Toronto this year. The killing has instilled fear and anger among students at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

Shivank Shot in Broad Daylight on Campus
In a Reddit post, a student said that Shivank Awasthi was shot in broad daylight inside the campus valley. This area is frequently used by students and is often mentioned by the university. Shivank Awasthi was identified as a third-year life sciences student.

Another Indian national was recently murdered in Toronto. Police are searching for Abdul Ghafoori, a Toronto resident, in connection with the murder of Himanshi Khurana, a 30-year-old woman of Indian origin. According to CBC News, police said the case appears to be related to domestic violence.
