New Delhi: Sam Altman, CEO of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, is now focusing his efforts on a new project called Brain. According to reports, OpenAI is now working on Merge Labs, a brain-computer interface. This system’s function is to capture signals and sound coming from the brain. It’s worth noting that it doesn’t require surgery.
This upcoming project by Sam Altman will directly compete with the Neuralink company owned by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk. Neuralink also implants a BCI chip in the human brain. It has already conducted a successful trial, allowing users to operate a computer cursor using brainwaves and sound.
Neuralink performs skull surgery
While implanting Neuralink’s BCI chip requires a head operation, the chipset is then implanted into the brain. Meanwhile, Sam Altman says that his project will not require surgery to open the head.
Large-Scale Hiring for Merge Labs
According to reports, Sam Altman is hiring a large and powerful team for Merge Labs. This includes renowned molecular scientist Mikhail Shipar. However, the exact position of the brain chip is not yet clear.
Who will benefit the most?
Neuralink’s BCI brain chip is designed for people who are paralyzed. Nolan Arbo is the first person to have a Neuralink chipset successfully implanted in his brain. He is paralyzed and cannot control the part below his neck. In such a situation, Neuralink’s brain chip has proved to be very useful for him. He is now healthy and is able to operate computers and laptops with the help of the brain chip.
