Khargone: Cybercriminals in MP are so emboldened that they have now begun directly targeting the district administration. A case has emerged of several officials receiving WhatsApp messages in the name of Khargone District Collector Bhavya Mittal, demanding money.
Collector Mittal reported that more than half a dozen officials reported receiving a WhatsApp message with their name and display picture. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the number originated from Vietnam.
The message provided details of a bank account, stating, “I am in a meeting and need an urgent payment. Please deposit the money into this account.”
Collector Bhavya Mittal immediately reported this cyber fraud to Khargone Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma. Cyber Cell in-charge Deepak Talware stated that complaints have been filed on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and an investigation is underway.
The Collector urged both citizens and officials to be vigilant against such cyber fraud. All concerned have been informed not to answer any calls or messages from fake numbers and to block them immediately.
