Bhopal: Following Delhi and Gujarat, the Eid holiday schedule has now been revised in Madhya Pradesh as well. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has declared May 28 as the holiday for Eid, instead of May 27. An order issued on Monday by the General Administration Department states that government offices will remain open on May 27.
Government Issues Order
The revised notification issued by the State Government states that, in place of the Eid-ul-Adha holiday previously declared for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a public and general holiday is now declared for Thursday, May 28, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The notification further specifies that all offices will remain open on May 27, operating according to their scheduled timings.
Eid to be Celebrated on the 28th
In fact, bank employees had requested the Madhya Pradesh government to revise the date for the Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) holiday. In their request, the bank employees argued that just as the governments in Delhi and Gujarat had amended the holiday dates, the Eid holiday in Madhya Pradesh should be similarly rescheduled to ensure that the holiday coincides with the actual day of Eid. In this regard, the association of bank employees in Madhya Pradesh had also written a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Since the Eid moon was not sighted in India, Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated on May 28 this year, and the Madhya Pradesh government has accordingly declared the official holiday for Eid on this very day.
