Election process for the post of Vice President started, notification will be issued soon

New Delhi: The Election Commission has given an update on the election for the post of Vice President. The Commission issued a press note saying that ‘The Election Commission has already started all the preparations related to the Vice Presidential election of 2025. In fact, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on the night of 21 July. At the same time, his resignation was also accepted yesterday. Dhankhar cited health reasons behind leaving his post. Now the Election Commission will conduct elections for the post of Vice President.

The Election Commission issued a press note and gave this information. It said that ‘The Election Commission has already started all the preparations related to the Vice Presidential election of 2025. After this, now other preparations related to this will also be completed soon and it will be announced when the election will be held for this post.


The Election Commission said in a press note that ‘The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification of resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on 22 July 2025. After this, elections will now be held. On this, the EC said that ‘The Election Commission has the right to conduct elections for the post of Vice President of India under Article 324.’

The Election Commission said that ‘The preparations that have been started for this election include finalizing the names of the elected and nominated members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, the names of the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer. Apart from this, the work of preparing the background for the elections of all former Vice Presidents has been done.
