Famous Bollywood singer Zubeen Garg passes away, PM Modi expresses grief

New Delhi: Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has passed away in a tragic accident in Singapore. He was scuba diving when he was involved in the accident. Singapore police rescued him and admitted him to a nearby hospital. Despite his best efforts, doctors were unable to save him. He was 52 years old and is survived by his wife.

A statement issued by the organizers of the North East Festival said, “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Zubeen Garg’s passing. He experienced difficulty breathing while scuba diving and was immediately administered CPR. He was rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite all efforts to save him, he was declared dead in the ICU at around 2:30 pm.”

PM Modi expresses condolences
The Prime Minister wrote on X, “Shocked by the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He will be remembered for his rich contributions to music. His performances were very popular among people from all walks of life. My condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”


Zubeen Garg was in Singapore to participate in the North East Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20. His sudden death has shocked fans and the entire Assamese community. His passing has left a deep void in the Indian music industry. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief over Zubeen Garg’s passing. He wrote on X, “Today Assam lost one of its dearest sons. I have no words to describe how much Zubeen meant to the state. He left too soon, he was not old enough to be gone.”

Former Rajya Sabha MP Ripu Bora paid his last respects to the singer on X. He wrote, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of our cultural icon Zubeen Garg. His voice, music, and courage inspired generations in Assam and beyond. My heartfelt condolences to his family, fans, and loved ones. Tribute.” Zubeen Garg sang the song “Ya Ali” from the 2006 film “Gangster.” This song made him very famous. He also sang the song “Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re” from the 2002 film “Kaante.” Apart from this, he sang the song “Dilruba” from “Namaste London.”
