Fight over dogs in Delhi, war over pigeons in Mumbai… Animal rights activists are also active in two big cities of the country

New Delhi: These days, the controversy over dogs and pigeons is heated in the country’s capital Delhi and financial capital Mumbai. While the Supreme Court has given strict instructions regarding stray dogs in Delhi, the Bombay High Court has banned feeding pigeons in Mumbai. Animal rights activists have also become active in both these cases. After the court’s decisions, both voices of welcome and criticism are being heard.

The Supreme Court on Monday issued strict instructions to make the streets of Delhi-NCR free from stray dogs. The court has given instructions to catch all stray dogs and immediately shift them to dog shelter homes. The court has also ordered sterilization and vaccination of these dogs. The court has also warned that strict contempt action will be taken against those who obstruct in catching dogs. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of children, elderly and women.

The issue of stray dogs in Delhi has been in discussion for a long time. The increasing incidents of dog bites and attacks have worried people. The Supreme Court considered this problem very serious and took this decision by taking suo motu cognizance. The court believes that the so-called animal lovers cannot bring back the lives of those children who have become victims of rabies. Therefore, it is necessary that immediate action be taken on this problem.

On the other hand, the Bombay High Court has banned feeding pigeons in Mumbai. This ban has been imposed due to health concerns. The High Court has said that respiratory diseases spread due to pigeon droppings. Acting on the court’s order, the BMC has closed many pigeon houses and also imposed a fine on those who feed them.

The matter of feeding pigeons in Mumbai has now taken the form of a religious and social controversy. The Jain community and other bird lovers are opposing this ban. They believe that feeding pigeons is a part of religion and it is cruelty to voiceless birds. Jain Muni Nilesh Chandra Vijay has warned that if needed, he will go on hunger strike and even take up arms.

Jain Muni said that some people sacrifice goats, that is their religion. We want to follow our religion. People are dying from alcohol and drugs, no one cares. It is said in our Jain religion that we should protect everyone from ants to elephants.
