Patna: Before the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced to give free electricity up to 125 units to the general public, giving relief. This decision will come into effect from August 1, 2025, and consumers will start getting its benefits from the bill of the month of July.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself shared the information about this decision through a tweet. He said, “We have been providing electricity to everyone at cheap rates from the very beginning. Now it has been decided that all domestic consumers of the state will not have to pay any fee on electricity up to 125 units.” This decision of the Nitish government will directly benefit a total of 1 crore 67 lakh families of the state. This scheme will prove to be a big relief especially for the poor and middle class families.
Nitish Kumar said, ‘We have also decided that in the next three years, by taking consent from all these domestic consumers, benefits will be given by installing solar power plants on the roofs of their houses or at the nearest public place.’
The CM said, ‘Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the entire cost of setting up solar power plants for extremely poor families and the government will also provide proper support for the remaining amount. Due to this, domestic consumers will no longer have to spend up to 125 units of electricity, and according to an estimate, up to 10 thousand megawatts of solar energy will be available in the state in the next three years.’
The state government believes that these efforts will not only reduce the cost of electricity, but the state will also get about 10,000 megawatts of solar energy in the next three years, which will also end the power crisis to a great extent.
