
New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old cunning cyber criminal who blackmailed many girls and women by befriending them online and extorted money from them. Police say that the accused had obtained a virtual international mobile number, using which he created fake profiles on Bumble, Snapchat and other apps. He had described himself as a freelance model based in the US.
According to the police, the target of this blackmailer were girls and women aged between 18 and 30 years. To attract girls and women, the accused had put a photo of a Brazilian model on his profile. When he used to talk to the women, he used to tell them that he had come to India for a project.
After this, the accused tried to make deep friendship with the girls and by luring them into talks, he used to ask for private pictures. If any girl or woman fell into the trap of this fraud and shared her private photos with him, then the accused would start extorting money by threatening to make those photos viral.
The complaint of this case was received by the police in the Cyber Police Station of Western District on 13 December 2024. The victim who complained was a second year student of Delhi University. She said in the complaint that she met a person on an online dating platform, who told himself to be a US-based freelance model.
The accused said that he had come to India for a project. Gradually he became a friend and chatting started. The student did not doubt the accused at all and shared her private photos and videos on WhatsApp. The victim asked the accused to meet her, but he refused by making excuses.
After this, the student was shocked when suddenly her objectionable video came on her mobile and the sender was none other than the same person whom she was considering as a freelance model from America. The accused sent the video and asked the student to either give him money or else he would make the video viral.
The student got scared after seeing her objectionable video, she sent as much money as she could. Even after this, the accused kept pressuring for more money. After this, the troubled student told the whole thing to her family members. After this, the family reached the police station and complained about the matter to the police. The police registered an FIR and started investigation.
The police formed a team to catch the accused. The team identified the accused as Tushar Bisht on the basis of technical evidence. Tushar is 23 years old, he lived in the school block of East Delhi. The police immediately arrested him. 23-year-old Tushar worked in a company in Noida. He lived in the school block with his parents and sister. The police recovered the mobile from him, in which he used to run all the fake IDs.
When the police interrogated the accused, it was found that he had a virtual international mobile number for the last two years, which he had obtained from an application. With the help of that number, he registered himself on several dating apps, where he presented himself as a US-based freelance model. He used a photo of a Brazilian model as his profile picture.
The accused had posted his photos and stories on fake IDs to make them look real. He used to connect with girls aged 18 to 30 on Bumble. After befriending the girls, he would chat with them and ask for their photos and video clips. Initially, he would only chat, later he would blackmail them and ask for money.
If a girl did not pay money, he would threaten to upload her photos on various social media platforms or sell them on the Internet. During interrogation, the accused told that till now he has talked to hundreds of girls, whose photos and videos are in his phone. He also told that he has blackmailed many girls by sending them their personal photos and videos and took money from them.
The accused revealed that he has chatted with more than 500 girls on Bumble and more than 200 on Snapchat and WhatsApp. He has photos and videos of many girls. Police have recovered the victim’s incriminating data and a mobile with an app-based virtual international mobile number and 13 credit cards of various banks from his possession.
More than 60 WhatsApp chatting records with different girls from Delhi and nearby areas were recovered from the accused’s mobile. Apart from the student, chatting with 4 other women revealed that Tushar had extorted money from them too.
