How dangerous is the fourth variant of corona in India? Health department increased surveillance

May 27, 2025

New Delhi: Currently, many variants of corona virus are active in the country. However, corona virus is an infection spreading not just in one country but all over the world. At present, corona is wreaking havoc in many countries. Its outbreak is also continuing in Asian countries. Kovid-19 patients are being found in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Pakistan. However, the situation in India is currently under control. The Central Health Department has also increased its surveillance, so that there is a minimum infection rate.

There are 4 variants of corona active in the country but people have information about only 3 variants. These include LF.7 series, JN.1 series and NB.1.8.1 series, while another variant XFG series is also spreading rapidly in the country. Recently some reports have come out regarding this series, which talks about its infection capacity and affecting the immune system.

Important things about the XFG variant
Effect on the immune system- The XFG variant has mutations such as A475V and N487D, which enable it to escape the immune system of a healthy human. Neurological- The mutation of this variant is quite strong, which makes it more infectious. This can also cause neuro problems in some patients. Infection rate- The viral load of this variant is likely to be very high, due to which it can spread the infection rapidly.

On the discovery of new COVID-19 variants in India, ICMR Director General Dr Rajiv Bahl says that “the variants we have confirmed from South and West India are not very serious. He says that these are mainly 4 variants – LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1. However, he says that not all these variants are so serious, the symptoms of all are being considered mild. Therefore, people do not need to panic but it is also important to be cautious.

Apart from this, he tells that we are also discovering more new variants in the country, which will be done through testing. The health department will also collect new samples soon.
