
Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was formally welcomed on Sunday at the Perdana Putra building in Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia, and was given a guard of honor. He was welcomed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Second day of PM Modi’s Malaysia visit
Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with ministers and delegations from both countries. It is worth noting that today is the second day of PM Modi’s visit to Malaysia. This is his first foreign visit of 2026.
Bilateral talks with the Malaysian PM
Later, PM Modi and the Malaysian PM held bilateral talks. Addressing the talks, PM Modi said that the India-Malaysia partnership is historic and cooperation between the two countries has continuously increased. During this time, Prime Minister Modi sincerely thanked the Malaysian Prime Minister and his government, saying that the way he and his delegation were welcomed would always be memorable. He said that the beautiful presentation of Malaysian life and culture, going beyond traditional methods, made this trip special.
‘India and Malaysia have excellent relations’
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, while welcoming Prime Minister Modi, said that relations between India and Malaysia are excellent. He said that there are some issues between the two countries on which teams from both sides will work together. He also expressed hope that cooperation will increase in every sector in the coming times. Anwar Ibrahim also said that this visit is very important for him personally.
PM Modi congratulates Malaysia on its successful ASEAN chairmanship
During this time, Prime Minister Modi said that he is feeling both the height and depth of India-Malaysia friendship. He stated that this was his third visit to Malaysia as Prime Minister and his fourth meeting with Anwar Ibrahim during the latter’s tenure. He said this reflects the momentum and strength of the relationship between the two countries. The pace and depth that bilateral relations have achieved in recent years are truly inspiring. Prime Minister Modi further added that today, cooperation between India and Malaysia is growing in every sector – be it agriculture, manufacturing, clean energy, or modern sectors like semiconductors. Both countries are also important partners in skill development and capacity building. Furthermore, cooperation in the defense and security sectors is continuously strengthening. He congratulated Malaysia on its successful chairmanship of ASEAN and said that India-ASEAN relations would deepen with Malaysia’s cooperation. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the real strength of India-Malaysia relations lies in the people-to-people ties. The nearly 3 million people of Indian origin living in Malaysia act as a vibrant bridge between the two countries.
PM Modi meets with Indians on Saturday
A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon arriving in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, addressed the Indian community and said that digital cooperation between the two countries is accelerating and India’s flagship digital payment system, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), will soon be launched in Malaysia.
