
New Delhi: A cloudburst has occurred amid heavy rains in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Due to cloudburst in the valley area, many houses were buried under debris and flood water. There are also reports of damage to Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. Rescue teams are present on the spot for relief and rescue work and efforts are on to handle the situation.
Officials said that a cloudburst occurred in Jod Valley village of Rajbagh area of Kathua district on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The village lost contact with the rest of the areas due to this incident and land and properties have been damaged. Although there were no reports of any casualties initially, later information has come to light that four people were killed and six people were injured.
A joint team of police and SDRF was immediately sent to the village. Officials said that the situation is being monitored. Apart from these, landslides also occurred due to heavy rains in Bagard and Changra villages falling under Kathua police station and Dilwan-Hutli area under Lakhanpur police station. However, no major damage has been reported here.
The water level of most of the water sources has suddenly increased due to heavy rains. The Ujh river is also flowing close to the danger mark. The district administration has appealed to the people to stay away from water sources for safety and follow the instructions of the administration.
