“Mamata Banerjee connived with the police to steal evidence,” ED files major allegation in SC in I-PAC raid case

January 15, 2026

New Delhi: The ED raid on the I-PAC office in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, has now reached the Supreme Court. The ED has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, accusing Bengal police officers of aiding the Mamata government, and the case is currently being heard. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the ED, claimed in court that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in collusion with the state police, “stole” evidence during the investigation.

  • The ED alleges that during the raid, the Chief Minister herself arrived at the scene and forcibly confiscated laptops, important documents, and mobile phones from investigating officers. Regarding this incident, the ED has demanded the immediate suspension of West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma and the registration of an FIR against them.

The ED’s arguments stated that the state machinery is being used as a pattern to obstruct the functioning of central agencies. The court is now reviewing the constitutional limits and law and order situation in this matter.
