
Kolkata: A fire broke out in a crowded market in Khidderpur in southwest Kolkata in the wee hours of Monday. Police said no one was injured or missing in the incident. State Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose said the fire has been brought under control, but “some places are still on fire”. According to Bose, at least 18 fire engines have been deployed to control the fire. Bose said that since the decades-old Khidderpur market is a crowded area, firefighters initially faced some difficulties in doing their job.
Cause of fire not known
Firefighters are working to cool down the fire-affected area, where many tin sheds and shops have been burnt to ashes in the fire. There has also been a loss of lakhs in this fire incident. However, the reason behind how the fire started is not known. According to sources, about 400 shops in the market were burnt to ashes in the fire. Panic spread in the entire market. 18 fire engines reached the spot to control the fire. The fire was brought under control after a long struggle by the fire fighters.
