Mayawati hints at creating a 2007-like equation for 2027, why she’s kept silent on Muslims

October 13, 2025

New Delhi: After nearly nine years, BSP chief Mayawati launched a show of strength in Lucknow on Thursday, signaling the 2027 election campaign. On the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, Mayawati appeared to be attempting to triangulate Uttar Pradesh’s bipolar political landscape by targeting Akhilesh Yadav’s “backward, Dalit, and minority” slogan.

From the Kanshi Ram memorial site, Mayawati revealed her strategy to regain her eroded political support base. She appeared to be weaving a 2007-like political equation to win the 2027 election. While strengthening the BSP’s Dalit vote bank, she also sought to create a chemistry between OBCs, extremely backward castes, and Brahmin-Thakur votes.

Mayawati stated clearly that her party would work to connect the backward and most backward classes, as well as the Brahmin and Kshatriya communities, with the BSP. At the mega rally, Mayawati announced that National General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra would be tasked with connecting Brahmins, MLA Umashankar Singh with Kshatriyas, and State President Vishwanath Pal with the most backward and backward classes. However, she did not reveal her plans regarding the Muslim community.

Plan to Win 2027 Using the 2007 Formula
In 2007, Mayawati embarked on the politics of all people, building on the BSP’s Bahujan politics, which led to the formation of a government with an absolute majority for the first time. Mayawati created a political chemistry between the Dalit vote and the most backward, Muslim, and Brahmin communities.

With an eye on the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections, the BSP began working on social engineering as early as February of this year. Under this, a brotherhood committee was formed in every district in March, with the plan to unite backward classes. For this, she mentioned Vishwanath Pal, the state president of the BSP.

BSP is developing new social engineering
Mayawati is holding meetings of these committees every two months to connect backward and extremely backward classes with the BSP. Meanwhile, the party will now work on a mission mode to bring together the Brahmin and Kshatriya communities. Mayawati has entrusted Satish Chandra Mishra with the responsibility of uniting the Brahmin community, while Umashankar Singh has been given the responsibility of securing Thakur votes. Mayawati also mentioned both these leaders.

In her speech on Thursday, Mayawati repeatedly mentioned poor upper castes, saying that the condition of this section had steadily deteriorated under the BJP, SP, and Congress governments, and that after the formation of the BSP government, the entire society would not be allowed to face any crisis of livelihood and employment. She also praised the work of Satish Chandra Mishra’s son, Kapil Mishra. He said that the way Kapil helped with other arrangements, including free medical care, at the event shows his dedication to the party.

Why has Mayawati remained silent on Muslims?
Mayawati has not revealed her plans regarding Muslim votes, but by including former MP Munakad Ali, Shamsuddin Rain, and former MLC Naushad Ali on the rally stage, she has conveyed a message of unity and respect for the Muslim community. According to a senior BSP leader, there is still uncertainty among the Muslim community about the BSP, but a separate plan is underway to integrate them, which will be revealed later.

Although Mayawati has appointed Muslim officials in the organization from the district, division, and state levels, the BSP has attempted to convey the message that the party’s doors are open to the Muslim community, but due to their close ties with the SP, this is not the primary focus at present.

Mayawati believes that the Muslim vote will only align with the BSP if it also unites with the Bahujan vote, which is why the entire focus is on the Dalit and backward vote bank. At the rally, Mayawati attempted to connect minorities, especially Muslims, with the party by highlighting their lack of development and the threat to their lives and property.

Mayawati vows to win in 2027
Mayawati has made it clear that she will leave no stone unturned in the 2027 assembly elections. She stated that she will make every effort to win the 2027 assembly elections. The BSP chief also gave the party’s national convener, Akash Anand, the opportunity to speak before her, further clarifying the party’s future. She stated that Akash is now fully integrated into the party’s movement and is working diligently, saying that just as you supported me after Kanshi Ram, Akash will also support you in the same way. Thus, she declared Akash a leader of the future.

Mayawati demonstrated her strength through the rally, vowing to end her 15-year exile by forming a majority government in the 2027 assembly elections. The Kanshi Ram memorial site, with a capacity of about three lakh people, was packed to capacity and crowds were seen outside as well, which is no less than a political lifeline for the BSP before 2027.
