MP: 260 Cows Slaughtered at Bhopal Slaughterhouse, Meat Exported Abroad…! Questions Raised on Laws and Government Claims

January 20, 2026

Bhopal. A shocking case has come to light in Madhya Pradesh amidst strict laws and government claims regarding cattle protection. More than 260 cows were allegedly slaughtered at a government-approved slaughterhouse located just two kilometers from the state secretariat.

How could more meat be produced than the permitted quantity?
The entire matter came to light on December 17, 2025, when Hindu organizations intercepted a container near the Jinsi slaughterhouse in Bhopal, loaded with 26.5 tons of meat. Suspicion arose because, according to the rules, this slaughterhouse was only permitted to slaughter 85 buffaloes, which would yield a maximum of 12.75 tons of meat. The amount of meat seized was more than double the permitted limit.

  • Later it was revealed that the container contained beef
According to a report, initially, municipal corporation and police officials claimed that the meat was buffalo meat. A team of animal doctors was called in, including 3 government doctors. The team issued a certificate stating that it was buffalo meat, after which the container was dispatched. However, on January 7, 2026, a report from a lab in Mathura revealed that it was cow meat (beef). By then, the container had reached Mumbai and was allegedly shipped abroad.

    Police arrested 2 people
In this case, the slaughterhouse operator Aslam Qureshi alias ‘Aslam Chamda’ and a driver were arrested and sent to jail. However, all this happened without any custodial interrogation. This virtually eliminated the possibility of uncovering a larger network. Hindu organizations allege that the entire process was carried out with “deliberate haste” to prevent the truth from coming out. Qureshi had the contract for removing dead animals.
Police sources say that healthy, milk-producing cows aged 4 to 8 years were also being slaughtered here, which is strictly prohibited by law. It is also alleged that Aslam Qureshi had a contract with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation to remove dead animals, and he misused this contract to illegally transport cows to the slaughterhouse.

Congress targets government over cow slaughter
Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain has suspended a doctor and promised action, but the opposition and social organizations say this is not enough. Congress state president Jitu Patwari attacked Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, saying, “On one hand, the government makes videos promoting cow protection, and on the other hand, cow slaughter is taking place in the heart of the capital.”

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Priyank Kanoongo has also directly held the Bhopal Municipal Corporation responsible. He says that since the slaughterhouse is under the control of the corporation, the responsibility lies not only with the employees but with the entire system.

    Many questions remain
The biggest questions still remain: Why was the CCTV footage not seized? Why is a DNA test being avoided? And is this entire case limited to just two people, or is a larger organized gang operating behind it? This case, which has come to light in the heart of Bhopal, has become a major test for the state’s “zero tolerance” policy.
