Sheopur. Disturbing news has emerged from Kuno National Park in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh (MP). A cub of female cheetah Veera has died in the open forest. The cub’s body was found in the forest area on Friday afternoon, causing a stir among the entire forest department and the cheetah project team.

Just one day earlier, on the afternoon of December 4th, female cheetah Veera and her two cubs were released into the open forest. Less than 24 hours after the release, this tragic incident occurred.

Uttam Kumar Sharma, Field Director of the Kuno National Park Cheetah Project, stated that the deceased cub was approximately 10 months old. It was released into the forest on December 4th along with its mother, Veera, and another cub. However, during the night after the release, this cub became separated from its mother and sibling. It was found dead on Friday afternoon.

He said that the actual cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem report is received. Currently, the female cheetah Veera and her other cub are together and healthy.

Uttam Kumar Sharma further informed that the team is continuously monitoring the area. This initial period after release is extremely sensitive for the cubs. Wildlife experts and the medical team have been alerted.

Following this death, there are now a total of 28 cheetahs remaining in Kuno National Park. These include 8 adult cheetahs (5 females and 3 males) and 20 cheetahs born in India. The park management claims that all the other cheetahs are healthy and are being monitored. The management is currently awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the cause of the cub’s death.
