Chhatarpur. Late Saturday night, in Bhelsi village within the Ishanagar area of Chhatarpur district, an electric scooter (e-scooter) that was plugged in for charging inside a home suddenly caught fire due to a short circuit. In a matter of moments, the fire intensified rapidly, engulfing a second e-scooter and a bicycle parked nearby. In the incident, both electric scooters and the bicycle were completely reduced to ashes.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the School Mohalla locality of Bhelsi. Here, around 12:00 AM, a loud explosion rocked the home of Ramgopal Prajapati (40), originating from the e-scooter that was charging. The sound of the blast woke Ramgopal and his wife. Upon rushing outside to investigate, they found the scooter completely engulfed in flames.
Within a short time, the fire spread to the second electric scooter and the bicycle parked nearby. The fire spread so rapidly that the family’s initial attempts to extinguish it proved futile. Throughout this ordeal, sounds resembling exploding batteries could be heard, which further fueled the blaze and escalated the situation into a terrifying crisis.
The family members shouted from their rooftop to alert and summon their neighbors. Upon receiving the alert, residents of the locality rushed to the scene and began a collective effort to extinguish the fire. After a strenuous struggle, the fire was finally brought under control; however, by that time, both e-scooters and the bicycle had been completely destroyed.
Ramgopal Prajapati stated that the explosion was so powerful that it shook the entire house. When he descended from the upper floor, the fire had already spread to the staircase, triggering panic among the family members. According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit resulting from the explosion of the e-scooter’s battery. An investigation into the matter is currently underway. Following the incident, an atmosphere of fear and apprehension prevails in the area, as residents have expressed concerns regarding the safety of electric vehicles and have urged others to exercise caution.
