MP: Fake currency worth Rs19 lakh recovered from a madrasa in Khandwa

Khandwa. Police recovered approximately Rs 19 lakh in fake currency from a madrasa in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. Police achieved this success after a video went viral on social media showing bundles of currency notes in the madrasa. Acting on this, police arrived at the scene and investigated.

Fake currency recovered from the imam’s room
Police said the fake currency was found in the room of the madrasa belonging to the imam, Zuber Ansari. Zuber Ansari (33), was arrested a few days ago in Malegaon, Maharashtra, where ₹10 lakh in fake currency was recovered from him. Khandwa police have now seized ₹19 lakh in fake currency during a search of his room.

Khandwa Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Taranekar stated that the counting of the notes is still ongoing. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police are trying to determine where the fake currency was printed and where it was intended to be sent.

Raid Based on Information from Maharashtra Police
According to police sources, Maharashtra Police informed Khandwa Police that fake notes worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered from Zuber Ansari and his accomplice, who were arrested in Malegaon. Following this information, Khandwa Police raided a madrasa in Pathiya village and recovered a large quantity of counterfeit currency.

Police Investigating the Network
Police are now investigating who else was in contact with Zuber Ansari. Initial investigations have revealed that this network was active in Burhanpur and parts of Maharashtra. Police are working with agencies from both states to uncover the entire gang.
