New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah has strongly advocated for the Constitution Amendment Bill which allows the removal of the arrested PM-CM from their posts if they are granted bail for 30 days. Amit Shah said that he and his party believe that whether it is the CM, PM or any other minister, they cannot run the government while being in jail. Earlier also many leaders had resigned on moral grounds, including leaders like LK Advani, George Fernandes. Recently Hemant Soren had resigned. Now we have made a legal provision for it.
The Home Minister said that when the Constitution was made, the Constitution makers would not have imagined such shamelessness that any Chief Minister would go to jail and remain the Chief Minister from inside. Such incidents have happened recently. We should not let the level of moral values fall. This law will give a foundation to the values of moral level.
While discussing this bill, the Home Minister recalled the time when a case was being investigated against him while he was the Home Minister of Gujarat. In fact, while presenting this bill in the Lok Sabha, Amit Shah had said that the Congress should not appeal to morality in this matter.
Amit Shah said in the interview, “I was accused and as soon as I was summoned, forget about the arrest, the CBI summoned me. I resigned the very next day. I was arrested later. And the case went on. The judgment also came that this was a case of political revenge. And I was completely innocent.”
The Home Minister said that, “That judgement came later, I had got bail earlier. This judgement said that I have no involvement in this case anywhere, and I was not acquitted on the basis of doubt. I got bail on the 96th day, yet I did not take oath and become the Home Minister. Not only this, I did not take oath on any constitutional post until the charges against me were quashed. So, does the opposition teach me lessons on morality?”
When Amit Shah was asked during the interview that you keep referring to the judiciary, but even at that time Justice Aftab Alam had come to your house to get your signature, that you should go out of Gujarat.
On this, Amit Shah said, “No, this has not happened. Aftab Alam sahab never came to my house, there was no need for that. He held a special court here on Sunday and heard my bail application. He said that I feel that Amit Shah can influence the evidence while being the Home Minister. So my lawyer said that if you are afraid, then our client will stay out of Gujarat until the bail application is decided. I have given that statement. I stayed out for two years. I definitely stayed out. Because… in the history of India, no one’s bail application ever lasted for two years. By the grace of Alam sahab, my bail application lasted for two years, at the most the bail application lasted for 11 days.”
Home Minister Amit Shah, referring to the arrests of leaders in recent times, said that if the level of social morality is lowered in this way, then we do not agree with it.
