‘Need to deal with Afghanistan before India…’, statement of Pakistani opposition leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman

May 02, 2025

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing tension in relations between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Party leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has made a big statement on Kashmir and Afghanistan.

Anti-India leader Fazlur Rehman said during his speech in Islamabad that we talk about Kashmir. But we have to think about Afghanistan before the issue of Kashmir. We have to think why Pakistan did not improve its relations with Afghanistan? Remember that all the governments that came in Afghanistan from Zahir Shah to Ashraf Ghani were pro-Indian governments.

Rahman said that there is a government of Amarat-e-Islami which we could have succeeded in making pro-Pakistani with political success. If we knew politics, then today Afghanistan should have been pro-Pakistan Afghanistan. But we are pushing them too. Instead of solving our issues, we are complicating them further.

He said that there are long queues of goods laden vehicles on both sides of the border and the public’s goods are being wasted. These wrong policies will continue to be made until political and economic thinking is not included along with military thinking. The economy of Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Iran, Bangladesh and China is going up. But among all these countries, Pakistan’s economy is going down.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that there is the issue of Kashmir but before the issue of Kashmir, we have to think about Afghanistan. Why did Pakistan not improve its relations with Afghanistan? My message to the army is to accept that in the current situation, you do not have strong political power behind you. Today, after India’s threats on the issue of Kashmir, the entire community is together but we are not united on the issue of Afghanistan because the ground situation of both is different. Nothing will happen with propaganda. We have to revive our politics and economy.
