NRI industrialist Lord Swaraj Paul dies at the age of 94

London. Prominent NRI industrialist Lord Swaraj Paul died in London on Thursday evening. Family sources informed about his death. He was 94 years old. Lord Paul, founder of the UK-based Caparo Group of Industries, had recently fallen ill and was admitted to the hospital, where he breathed his last in the presence of family members.

Swaraj Paul, a member of the House of Lords, was born in Jalandhar and came to Britain in the 1960s for the treatment of his younger daughter Ambika’s cancer. After Ambika’s death at the age of just 4, he founded the ‘Ambika Paul Foundation’, which donated millions of pounds to education and health schemes for children and youth around the world.


Life dedicated to family
Lord Paul said at the annual event held at Ambika Paul Children’s Zoo in London last month, “London Zoo is the place where she was always the happiest.” It has been a major beneficiary of the foundation. After the death of son Angad Paul in 2015 and wife Aruna in 2022, he also did many service works in their memory.

In February 2023, Lord Paul, while inaugurating the Lady Aruna Swaraj Paul Hall at the historic Indian Gymkhana Club in London, said, “This hall is dedicated to my wife, whom I miss very much. We never even had an argument in our 65 years of married life.”

Was included in the ‘Sunday Times Rich List’ every year
Lord Paul was included in the Sunday Times Rich List every year. This year too, he was ranked 81st with a net worth of 2 billion pounds (about Rs 21 thousand crores). Most of his wealth was linked to the steel and engineering multinational company Caparo Group. It is headquartered in London and has over 40 centres in the UK, North America, India and the Middle East. His son Akash Paul is the chairman of Caparo India and director of the Caparo Group.
