New Delhi: Pakistan is sending its top military officials and spies to Bangladesh. This has put India in alert mode. India said on Friday that it is closely monitoring recent developments and will take ‘appropriate action’ in the matter of national security. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a media briefing, “We keep an eye on all activities in the country and the region, as well as all activities affecting national security and the government will take appropriate action.” These statements came after a high-profile delegation of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) led by Major General Shahid Amir Afsar visited Bangladesh on Friday for three days.
This visit comes after the recent visit of top military officials of Bangladesh to Pakistan, where they met the chiefs of the three armies. After the uproar following the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from office, the Bangladesh government led by Mohammad Yunus has grown closer to Pakistan. This has rung alarm bells in India.
Bangladesh’s decision to grant visa to any Pakistani citizen without security clearance has made people worried. Experts have warned of increased activities of ISI and Jamaat.
