Patient found infected with M-Pox in Karnataka, man had returned from Dubai

New Delhi. A 40-year-old man in Karnataka has been found positive for monkeypox. He had recently returned from Dubai. The lab of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune has confirmed the infection.

The man developed hives-like rashes and fever soon after arriving in Mangaluru on January 17. He was immediately isolated and treated at a private hospital. Health officials have confirmed that the man is stable and will be discharged soon.

The man’s wife met him at the airport, who has been kept under observation as a precaution. Officials have clarified that monkeypox spreads only through close contact and is less risky than COVID-19. Officials appealed to people not to panic.

This new case of monkeypox in India comes at a time when Chinese health officials have detected a new variant of monkeypox, called clade Ib. The virus is constantly spreading to more countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a global public health emergency last year.
