PM Modi Speaks with Iranian President Pezeshkian; Key Issues Discussed

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He extended his greetings to him on the occasions of Eid and Nowruz. Reflecting on this conversation, PM Modi wrote in a post: “We expressed hope that this festive season would bring peace, stability, and prosperity to West Asia.” He condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, noting that such acts pose a threat to regional stability and disrupt global supply chains. He reiterated the importance of upholding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure. He also appreciated Iran’s continued support regarding the safety and security of Indian citizens residing in Iran.

Earlier, on the occasion of Nowruz, the Prime Minister extended his greetings to the people and wished them a year filled with prosperity and happiness. In a message, PM Modi stated: “Greetings on the special occasion of Nowruz. I wish for a year filled with prosperity and happiness. May everyone remain healthy, and may all their aspirations be fulfilled. Nowruz Mubarak!” In Persian, Nowruz means “New Day.” It is celebrated on the first day of spring, marking the beginning of the New Year for Parsis and others of Iranian origin.


  • Spoke with the King of Bahrain Yesterday
    In the context of the Prime Minister’s ongoing interactions with world leaders amidst the current conflict in West Asia, the Prime Minister had spoken with the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, just yesterday. During this conversation, they discussed the prevailing situation in West Asia. Furthermore, they condemned attacks targeting energy and civilian infrastructure within the region.

    During the telephonic conversation with the Ruler of Bahrain, the Prime Minister emphasized the critical importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lanes open and secure. Sharing details of this interaction, the Prime Minister wrote in a post: “Had a meaningful discussion with the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. I conveyed my warm greetings to him and the people of Bahrain on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.” He Has Spoken to These World Leaders Amidst the Conflict Modi stated, “We discussed the prevailing situation in the West Asian region. We condemned the attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure within the region and addressed their adverse impact on global food, fuel, and fertilizer security.” The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the continued support regarding the welfare of the Indian community in Bahrain.

    This marked the second instance—following the attacks on Iran by the US and Israel on February 28—that PM Modi spoke with the ruler of Bahrain. Since the onset of the conflict, Prime Minister Modi has also held conversations with several other world leaders, including those from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, France, Malaysia, Israel, and Iran.
