This was the Prime Minister’s first meeting with the President after his recent visit to the United Kingdom and Maldives. After the Prime Minister’s meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met President Murmu.

The meeting of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah has created a stir in the political corridors. This meeting has taken place at a time when the process for the election of the Vice President has started. The Election Commission has announced the dates for the election of the Vice President on August 1. Voting for the election of the Vice President will be held on September 9.
The post was vacant after Dhankhar’s resignation
On July 21, 2025, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President of India citing his health reasons. After the end of the first day of the monsoon session, he submitted his resignation to President Murmu.
Uproar over SIR process in Bihar
On the other hand, there is a controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process being run by the Election Commission in Bihar. The opposition is constantly raising questions about this process. The opposition wants a discussion in both the houses of Parliament on this issue, but the government is not ready to hold a discussion. Due to this, the functioning of Parliament is getting affected.

This meeting also took place at a time when India’s friendly country America has announced to impose 25 percent tariff on India and penalty for buying military equipment and crude oil from Russia.
It is worth noting that earlier on 16 July 2025, Prime Minister Modi had also met President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before the start of the monsoon session.
