Washington: US President Donald Trump is attacking South Africa over alleged oppression of white farmers. He also boycotted the recent G20 summit in South Africa. Meanwhile, he has now announced South Africa’s exclusion from next year’s G20 summit. Trump stated bluntly that South Africa will not receive an invitation to the 2026 G20.
Miami G20 Not Allowed
Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he is barring South Africa from participating in next year’s Group of 20 (G20) summit in Miami. He also stated that he will withhold all payments and subsidies to South Africa due to the treatment meted out to a US government representative at this year’s global meeting.
Trump Attacks Africa
Trump reportedly decided not to include a US delegation at the recent summit hosted by South Africa, stating that he did so because members of the Afrikaner community (white farmers in South Africa) were being violently persecuted. This is a claim South Africa has rejected as baseless.
Allegations of Mistreatment of US Embassy Representative
The Republican president said in a social media post that South Africa had refused to hand over its G-20 hosting duties to a senior US Embassy representative after the summit concluded over the weekend. “Therefore, at my direction, South Africa will not receive an invitation to the 2026 G-20, which will be held next year in Miami, Florida,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Payments and Subsidies Stopped Effective Immediately
He further stated that South Africa has demonstrated to the world that it does not deserve membership in any country, and we are going to stop all payments and subsidies to them with immediate effect.
