Chandigarh. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback in Delhi elections. After this, a round of speculations is going on. It is being said that the power center of Aam Aadmi Party can now shift from Delhi to Punjab. Amidst these speculations and political claims, three big developments took place in Punjab in a single day. Due to which political stir has intensified.
1. Administrative Reforms Department taken away from Kuldeep Dhaliwal
On Friday evening, the Punjab government first took away the Administrative Reforms Department from Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal. For which the Governor of Punjab issued a gazette notification on the advice of CM Bhagwant Mann. Now Dhaliwal will only handle NRI matters.
2. Big transfer in police department
The second big development also happened on Friday evening, when the Home Department of Punjab transferred 21 IPS officers. Which includes many Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs). In this reshuffle, DIGs of Ferozepur and Ludhiana Range, AIG Intelligence, AIG Crime, ADC to Governor, SSPs of Gurdaspur, Amritsar (Rural), Barnala, Khanna, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana (Rural), Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Hoshiarpur have been changed.
3. Demand for mass resignation from lawyers!
These two big changes had just happened when the next hour sources from the AG office confirmed to Aaj Tak that the high officials (citing the government) are demanding mass resignation from the lawyers in the AG office, due to which the situation has become tense.
First big step after losing Delhi elections
These changes have been made at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections on February 8. This has further intensified speculations of a change in the balance of power in Punjab.
Opposition’s attack and strategy for 2027
Since February 8, comments have been made by the BJP and the Congress that after Delhi, there will be changes in Punjab as well and the Aam Aadmi Party is preparing a new strategy for the 2027 assembly elections.
Politics heated up with the statement of ‘Hindu Chief Minister in Punjab’
Aam Aadmi Party leader Aman Arora’s recent statement of ‘Hindu Chief Minister in Punjab’ had heated up the political atmosphere. After this, in the cabinet meeting held on February 13, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann openly said that anyone can become the Chief Minister, he is ready to step down, but leaders should avoid unnecessary statements in the media. However, CM Mann did not name anyone. After this, he dismissed speculations of his resignation from the post.
Government accused of taking slow decisions
The opposition alleges that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is adopting a sluggish attitude on Punjab issues and is responding late on many matters. BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Bittu said that the Chief Minister did not even go to meet the migrant citizens (deportees) of Punjab. When the first batch came from America on February 5, he was busy campaigning in Delhi. Now in 2027, people want a BJP government in Punjab. He said that CM Mann himself talked about remaining in the post, while this is the job of the party chief or convener. The CM has failed on the issues of Punjab.
Chances of uproar in the assembly session
The two-day session of the Punjab Assembly will be held in Chandigarh on February 24 and 25, where there is a possibility of heated debate and uproar on all these issues.
