Rising Tension in Hormuz: Indian National Killed, Eight Crew Members

Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Defence stated that two national tankers, ‘Mombasa’ and ‘Al Bahiyah’, were struck by two Iranian cruise missiles while passing through the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters. An Indian crew member aboard the ‘Mombasa’ tanker was killed in the attack. Additionally, eight other individuals were injured, four of them critically. The injured include six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian nationals.


  • Severe Damage to Tankers
    The missile attack caused fires on both tankers, resulting in significant damage. However, the fires have since been brought under control. The Ministry of Defence has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a grave violation of international law and a major threat to regional security and stability.

    UAE’s Stance on the Attack
    The Ministry stated that the UAE reserves the right to respond to this escalation. It affirmed that it would take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, stability, and national interests, ensuring the safety of its territory, citizens, and residents. The Ministry emphasized that it is fully prepared and vigilant to counter any threat, and any attempt to compromise the country’s security will be met with a firm response.

    Appeal to Avoid Rumors
    The Ministry of Defence has appealed to the public to rely solely on official sources for information. It urged people to refrain from spreading rumors or unverified information via social media or other channels. UAE Foreign Ministry Condemns Attack
    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly condemned the Iranian missile attacks on its national oil tankers, ‘Mombasa’ and ‘Al Bahiyah’, in the Strait of Hormuz within Omani waters. The Ministry expressed deep condolences to the Government and people of India over the death of an Indian national in these attacks. The UAE emphasized that this attack constitutes a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817. It also called for an immediate cessation of all hostile activities and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
