New Delhi. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar gave a befitting reply to Pakistan in front of China at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers Summit. Without naming anyone, he said that India will not tolerate terrorism at all and will take strict action against terrorists following its policy. He described terrorism, separatism and extremism as ‘three demons’. Jaishankar said that it is important to remain firm on our objectives of dealing strictly with these challenges.
Pahalgam attack was carried out deliberately – Jaishankar
Addressing the meeting of foreign ministers of the member countries of the organization here in Beijing on Tuesday, Dr. Jaishankar said that this organization was established to deal with the challenge of terrorism, separatism and extremism.
Referring to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, he said these three challenges often come together. He said the attack was deliberately carried out to undermine the tourism economy of Jammu and Kashmir and promote division on the basis of religion.
He said some of the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation are also members of the United Nations Security Council and the Security Council has strongly condemned the attack. The Security Council, “emphasized the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.” He said India has taken action accordingly. He said, “We have done exactly this since then and will continue to do so. It is important that the SCO remains committed to its founding objectives and takes a firm stand on this challenge.”
Referring to the ongoing conflicts and confrontations around the world, Jaishankar said the organisation is challenged to stabilise the global order and resolve these problems. He said, “We are meeting at a time when the international system is in great disarray. In the last few years, we have seen more conflict, competition and pressure. Economic instability is also clearly on the rise. The challenge before us is to stabilise the global order, de-risk various aspects and, through all this, address the long-term challenges that threaten our collective interests.”
