The entire village came under the grip of debris. The screams of the people amidst the flood of water shook the heart. So far four people have been reported dead in this accident while more than fifty people are reported missing. Meanwhile, the rescue operation of the army is going on.
An army camp has also come under the grip of this devastation. There is an army mess and cafe here. Many soldiers are feared to be missing in the accident. The unit of 14 Rajputana Rifles of the Army is deployed in Harshil. The helipad built on the banks of the river in Harshil has also been washed away. Due to heavy rain, relief and rescue work is not being done by helicopter.
What is the update on Dharali disaster?
Four teams of NDRF have reached the spot and are engaged in rescue. Apart from this, three teams of ITBP have also been deployed in relief work. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the state and central governments are appealing to the people to stay away from the river. The state government is constantly monitoring the situation.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall, debris and boulders have fallen at many places on the Gangotri National Highway. This has badly affected the movement. BRO is engaged in opening the National Highway on a war footing. The army camp has also come under the grip in the accident. Many soldiers are reported missing. Due to heavy rains, relief and rescue work is not being done by helicopter.
Due to the flood in Kheer Ganga of Dharali, there is waterlogging in the area of Harsil helipad. There may be a danger of flood in the lower parts of Uttarkashi. Many people are now leaving the area due to fear of devastation.
At present the weather is bad but as soon as the weather improves, the rescue operation will be expedited. Schools and colleges are closed today in many districts of Uttarakhand. After the cloudburst, debris is continuously coming down from the mountains. People are continuously making new videos of this.
In such a situation, the correspondent present at ground zero in Bhatwari area, about 35 km from Dharali village, made us aware of the current situation. The biggest challenge in the rescue operation after this disaster is the weather. The weather is very bad. It is raining. There is also an alert of heavy rain in many areas. But there are so many landslides on the way to Dharali village that the NDRF and ITBP teams are facing difficulties in moving forward.
The road built in a 150 meter stretch connecting Uttarkashi to Gangotri-Harshil has completely collapsed. Due to this, the NDRF and ITBP teams are facing difficulty in moving forward. The scene is similar beyond this, roads have been destroyed in many places. The cracks on the roads are increasing. In such a situation, the rescue workers are trying to reach the spot with the necessary equipment through the mountains. The additional teams called for the rescue team will first prepare the path by cutting the mountains.
But rain is the biggest obstacle. Due to bad weather, even helicopters could not land. But they have been kept on standby. The flow of Bhagirathi river is fast, due to which all the villages ahead have been evacuated. The biggest problem faced by the rescue workers is to reach the spot right now. Because there is no machinery on the spot right now, there is no detection system of any kind. In such a situation, it is difficult to detect people buried under the debris.
There is a red alert for heavy rain in Uttarakhand today. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in view of heavy rain in many areas of Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar today. The remaining areas have been put on orange alert. In view of the warning of heavy rain, a holiday has been ordered in 9 districts of the state.
