Raisen: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced financial assistance of ₹15 lakh for each displaced tribal family from Neelgarh, along with five acres of agricultural land, as the families prepare to relocate to a new settlement called Naya Neelgarh.
The tribal families were displaced from Neelgarh as part of efforts to conserve forests. The issue had drawn criticism from Chouhan, who has now reiterated his support for the affected families.
Chouhan Calls Tribal Families’ Sacrifice for Forest Conservation Significant
Speaking about the relocation, Chouhan said the tribal families had lived in Neelgarh for many years. He expressed respect for their decision to leave behind their homes, land and village in the interest of forest conservation.
Chouhan recalled that a rehabilitation package for the families had been proposed during his tenure as Chief Minister. Under the announced assistance, each family will receive ₹15 lakh and five acres of agricultural land near a highway in Naya Neelgarh. The measures are intended to support the families as they rebuild their lives after relocation.
Chouhan to Meet Families Before Their Relocation
Chouhan also revealed that the displaced families had invited him and the local MLA to attend a programme before their move to Naya Neelgarh. According to him, the tribal community has been organising this event for several years.
Describing the occasion as an emotional moment, Chouhan said leaving behind their ancestral homes and the village where they had lived for generations would not be easy for the families.
He said he would meet the affected residents, sit with them and extend all possible assistance to address their concerns regarding rehabilitation and relocation.
