
New Delhi: Social media was resumed after the ongoing protests in Nepal. So far 20 people have died in this protest, while more than 200 were injured. This protest was led by Gen-Z i.e. youth between 18 and 30 years. The protest is still going on. More than 12 thousand protesting youth entered the Parliament House premises on Monday morning against the ban on social media and government corruption, after which the army fired several rounds. This is the first case of intrusion into Parliament in the history of Nepal.
According to the report, the protesters had occupied Gate No. 1 and 2 of the Parliament. After this, curfew was imposed in the areas near the Parliament House, President, Vice President, PM residence. The Kathmandu administration has given orders to shoot at sight the vandals. On September 3, the Nepal government had decided to ban 26 social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube.
These platforms had not registered with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Nepal. For this, the ministry had issued an order on August 28 and given 7 days time, this deadline ended on September 2. In Kathmandu, the protest turned violent and the youth entered the Parliament building and vandalized and set fire. The police again used tear gas, water cannon and even rubber bullets.
Youth are protesting in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on Monday against the allegations of corruption in the Nepal government and the decision to ban social media. The government of Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had decided to ban 26 social media apps on September 3. In protest against this decision and accusing the government of corruption, thousands of Gen-Z (born from 1997 to 2012) youths are taking to the streets and protesting.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Government of Nepal had given a deadline of 7 days from 28 August to all social sites and apps to register. It is being told that 26 social media apps including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube did not register with the ministry within the deadline. After which the government decided to ban all these apps. Against this decision and alleging corruption in the government, thousands of youths of Nepal started protesting on Monday and slogans are being raised against the Nepal government.
