August 11, 2025

New Delhi: On Monday, amid the uproar of the opposition in both the houses of Parliament, the ruling party passed five bills one after the other. A brief discussion on the sixth bill has also been completed. Leader of the opposition Mallikarjun Kharge surrounded the ruling party in Rajya Sabha regarding this and demanded a clarification from the chair, the leader of the house.

Kharge said that one thing we did not understand, that the house being asked for discussion is not in order and the bills are being passed. He said that this is a big betrayal of democracy. Kharge said that democracy should be protected. The chair, the leader of the house should clarify this. What kind of democracy is this?

Countering the attack of the leader of the opposition, Leader of the House JP Nadda said that the leader of the opposition said that democracy should be protected. It should definitely be protected, but the house cannot be held hostage. He said that it was decided in the Business Advisory Committee that the bill will be passed. When the budget of Manipur was being passed, the opposition is protesting.

After the Leader of the House finished speaking, Surendra Singh Nagar from the Chair took the name of Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to answer the discussion on the Merchant Shipping Bill. Sarbananda Sonowal started speaking. During this, the uproar increased so much that the proceedings had to be adjourned till 3 pm.

When the proceedings resumed, Mallikarjun Kharge said that today 250 MPs took out a rally on the issue of vote theft. 250 MPs were arrested and taken to the police station. On this, the Chair interrupted him and said to speak on the subject. Leader of the House JP Nadda said that the bill is being discussed, the minister is answering it.

Leader of the House JP Nadda said that I think the subject on which the opposition leader is talking is irrelevant. After this Sarbananda Sonowal completed the answer. The opposition parties walked out. Leader of the House JP Nadda said that those who used to roam around as champions of Manipur were opposing the Manipur Bill.

He said that we had said on the first day that the government is ready to discuss every issue. But we will not tolerate anarchy. JP Nadda said that I want to tell the people of the country that we are ready to discuss every issue in a democratic manner.
