New Delhi: The Indian team for the upcoming Test series against England was announced on 24 May (Saturday). Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar announced the Test team in a press conference held in Mumbai. Shubman Gill has been given the command of the 18-member team, while wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been made the vice-captain.

If seen, this is going to be the first Test series of the Indian team after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India toured Australia in November last year and the tour ended with the Sydney Test in January this year. The Australia tour was not memorable for the Indian team and it had to face defeat by 1-3 in the five-match Test series.

Now the Indian team will look quite changed in the upcoming England series as compared to the Australia tour. This change has happened in just four months. 7 players who were part of the Indian team on the Australia tour will not go on this tour. This also includes the names of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who recently announced their retirement from Test cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin will also not be a part of the England tour. Ashwin had said goodbye to international cricket during the Australia tour itself. Apart from this, middle order batsman Sarfaraz Khan and fast bowler Harshit Rana have also not got a place in the team for the Test series against England. Tanush Kotian and Devdutt Padikkal are also not part of the team. Tanush and Padikkal were included in the squad in the middle of the series against Australia.

At the same time, there are 5 players who were not part of the Australia tour, but have been included in the Indian team for the England series. This includes the names of Arshdeep Singh, Sai Sudarshan, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Karun Nair. Sai Sudarshan and Arshdeep Singh have joined the Test team for the first time. The captain of the Indian team on the Australia tour was Rohit Sharma and the vice-captain was Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah also captained two Test matches on that tour.
