New Delhi. US President Donald Trump has started a campaign to expel illegal migrants from the country as soon as he took the oath, the effect of which is being seen in many countries including India. More than 100 Indians who dreamed of settling in America were deported to India through a plane recently and there has been talk of taking more such actions in the coming days. Meanwhile, some shocking figures have come to light in a recent research related to Indians wanting to go to America. This study by Johns Hopkins University shows that in the last 5 years, the number of people seeking asylum in America from India has increased significantly.
According to the study of John Hopkins, in 2018, 9,000 Indians were seeking asylum in the desire to live the American Dream. Now in 2023, this number has become 51,000. However, in the meantime, the number of Indians living illegally in America has decreased. According to US government data, the population of Indians living illegally in America has decreased by 60 percent since reaching its peak in 2016.
It is worth noting that the US immigration system allows illegal immigrants caught at the border to apply for asylum. According to the study, those who pass this initial investigation are allowed to present their case in the immigration court. With the increase in strictness on the border, the number of such applications also starts increasing.
