The Vikasit Bharat-G Ramji Bill becomes law, President gives assent

December 21, 2025

New Delhi: The President has given his assent to the Vikasit Bharat-Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), or VB-G Ramji Bill, 2025. With this assent, the bill has now become law. Under this law, the statutory wage employment guarantee for rural families has been increased to at least 125 days per financial year. The government is calling this a historic step that will strengthen rural life. The government says that the implementation of the VB-G Ramji Act will strengthen the legal guarantee of employment in rural areas even further.

This bill was discussed late into the night in Parliament. The opposition argued that the government was deliberately changing the name of MNREGA, as Mahatma Gandhi’s name was also mentioned in MNREGA, which is why the BJP brought this bill to remove this name. The government, meanwhile, argued that the previous scheme provided 100 days of work. But now, under this law, it is mandatory to provide at least 125 days of work. During this debate, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari launched a scathing attack on the BJP. He stated that whenever Congress comes to power, they will change its name again. Amid all this uproar, the bill was passed by voice vote. However, the opposition strongly opposed the bill in Parliament. Furthermore, the opposition even staged an all-night sit-in outside the Constitution Hall.

According to this law, it will now be the government’s responsibility to provide 125 days of wage-based work a year to eligible rural families. Its primary objective is to increase the income of rural laborers, farmers, and landless families and provide them with economic security. The government claims that this will reduce poverty in villages and provide people with work in their own areas.

The government states that the new law aims not only to provide employment but also to holistically empower rural society. Under the VB-G Ram Ji Act, inclusive development has been prioritized to ensure that the benefits of schemes reach the lowest rung of society. The government claims that this law will play a crucial role in empowering women, vulnerable groups, and needy families, thereby providing sustainable strength to the rural economy.

This law emphasizes better coordination between various development schemes. The government wants to ensure that ongoing schemes in rural areas are integrated and deliver more effective results. The plan is to transform the face of villages by linking roads, water conservation, irrigation, housing, and other infrastructure projects with employment. This will increase both transparency and speed in development work.

The VB-G Ram Ji Act places special emphasis on saturation-based delivery. This means that no eligible family is deprived of the benefits of the scheme. The government states that the primary objective of this law is to provide employment and livelihood benefits to the last person. This will reduce inequality in rural areas and ensure that the benefits of development reach everyone. The government believes that this law will further strengthen the foundation of a prosperous, strong, and self-reliant rural India. The increased employment will strengthen rural income sources and curb migration to cities. The VB-G Ram Ji is being considered a decisive step for the future of rural India, which will strengthen the country’s economy in the long run.
